Hiking routes in the area:

The huts are similarly built. On the ground floor is an entrance, a well-equipped kitchen, a big dorm room with bunk beds and a warden’s room. On the second floor are sleeping lofts with mattresses.

Toilets and showers are located in a separate house close by and there is a winter latrine/outhouse behind the toilet house.

The camping ground is situated close to the toilet building.

The first hut in Nýidalur was built in the year 1967 on the road that goes over the central highlands at Sprengisandur.

On a fine day, the view from the huts is magnificent. The nearby Tungnafell glacier is easy to conquer from the well-vegetated valley Nýidalur which also allows access to Pass Vonarskarð across the mountain ridge Mjóháls.
